Hello Everybody. My name is Laethe (rhymes with faith).

I am guided by a need to visualize the complexity and the simplicity of my lived experience. Not as a contradiction, but at a partnership that shapes my life and my artistic expression. I find inspiration in the overwhelming maximalism of the life I’ve created and find times to enjoy the quiet, simple, minimalism that intervenes as needed. So I flow between full, dynamic, colorful compositions and simple, soft-spoken art.

I think of it as reaching into a tangle of yarn. Feeling the soft strands as my fingers penetrate the snaking continuous length of cotton fiber. Enjoying the knots that envelop my hand - pausing, thinking, feeling. Needing to then find the end and pull a taught, straight line from the organic jumble. Watching as the vibrating strand relaxes into a simple, singular expression of the tangle from which it was pulled.

In my work you’ll see canvas, covered in color, littered with objects, reflecting the chaos of a complicated life while finding the beauty of the tangle, in a series called All Of These Beautiful Things. And you’ll see quiet moments reduced to 2 colors on untreated pine board celebrating the joy found in stillness, in a series called Silent Satisfaction.

Ultimately, my art is a reflection of the space where simplicity and complexity coexist. A place where clutter meets clarity and something that is uniquely human emerges. I offer my work as a recognition of what it means to honor the fullness of the human condition.
