Hello Everybody. My name is Laethe (rhymes with faith).
My current work is focused on how memory is less of a factual account of your history and more of a hyperbolic narrator of your life. My narrator takes blurry moments from my past and adds music, emotion, imagery, time and space to create beautiful paintings depicting feelings (vibes, ya know?!) that originated in my childhood.
I think of it as reaching into a tangle of yarn. Feeling the soft strands as my fingers penetrate the snaking continuous length of cotton fiber. Enjoying the knots that envelop my hand - pausing, thinking, feeling. Needing to then find an end and pull a line from the organic jumble. Watching as the fuzz and knots slither through the overlapping strands, vibrating as the line gets taught, becoming a unique, singular expression of the tangle from which it was pulled.
Ultimately, my art is a reflection of the space in the mind where simplicity and complexity coexist. A place where clutter meets clarity and something that is uniquely human emerges. I offer my work as a recognition of what it means to honor the fullness of the human condition.
